The "Goldene Buch der Flieger" was not a portable decoration, but a book in which pilots were recorded who had a special achievement and awarded themselves in a very specific way, during the fullfilment of their duty. In the book only 39 persons were recorded, of which 5 civilians and 34 military.

The person that was written in the book, received a document with the date of recording in the book. The document consists of four pages, with on the second page the award certificate itself and on the third page the citation.
